Balero Kid’s Craft for Cinco de Mayo

balero cinco de Mayo upcycled craftI was searching Pinterest for some Cinco de Mayo inspiration and was surprised to see there were no cup and ball crafts. So I had to create one! This fun kid’s game is called Balero in Mexico where it originated in the sixteenth century.
It can easily be made with household items.
cup and ball craft supplies
Recycled Keurig cup or small Dixie cup
Thumb tack
Large plastic bead
Ribbons, hot glue, paint, ric-rac and/or mini pom poms for decorating

How to Make an Upcycled Cup and Ball Craft

Step 1: Decorate your cup in red, yellow and green.
Step 2: Insert thumb tack through the bottom of the cup and into the pencil eraser.
*Note: If using a Keurig cup, you’ll need to clean it out thoroghly.
Step 3: Tie one end of the string in a knot around your bead and then tie the other end of the string around your pencil, right below the eraser.
Step 4: Swing the bead and try to get it in the cup.
Balero is a kid craft and game all in one!
You could also decorate the K-cup to look like a little sombrero instead of a cup!

This is the first time I’ve seen anybody re-use K-cups–so cool! My nieces would have so much fun doing this project. Thanks for sharing~
