How to Keep Kids Occupied (and quiet) While Waiting

Let’s face it, there is a lot of time spent waiting: waiting to cash out, waiting for food to be prepared, waiting for the car to arrive at your final destination. And through all this, you would just like some peace and quiet.

Well, here is my antidote for impatience and boredom during idle waiting – especially if you’re looking for an alternative to DS games and fighting over toys.

When my husband and I take our children out to dinner, I like to keep them occupied in the down time by playing a game I call, “Simon Signs.” It’s like Simon – the memory game with colored buttons that light up – except we use sign language. I’ll sign one letter, they follow, then I build on that, round by round adding one more letter to the sequence. In the end I will have spelled a word and I see if they can figure out the word.
It’s a quiet, always available way to take their minds off the waiting process, test their focus and teach them sign language!

Try it; it’s fun!
What games do you play during your idle time?

I’m Cristin Frank (AKA Eve). I love all things frugal and crafty. My mindset is always on upcycling, repurposing, reducing waste and saving money – and Eve of Reduction is my roadmap. You might also want to check out my book, "Living Simple, Free & Happy."
